I've been using some journaling through January, just to get my creativity spot up going again. This month can be a little bit difficult for energy levels and everything else it seems to be working. Although doing art journals can feel a little bit purposeless actually it can be a really good way of just processing ideas, moving on to the next stage of whatever your creativity is going to do.
This particular sketchbook or journal page is done on black gesso with gold acrylic and white ink. And then I've written over the top of it in black India ink. I was thinking about how much talk there is of sovereignty in the right wing of politics at the moment. So I found myself asking the question, sovereign over whom and with what purpose?
The black handwriting reads, Sovereignty comes with the duty to care for yourself and your community, your land. This twisted version is very toxic. It is all about self, but what does that really mean? How can anyone operate outside of their community? Autonomy is important, but just that is a totally meaningless construct.
A dead end. This personal sovereignty is another way their death cult manifests. These intuitive journal or sketchbook pages are just a really good way for me to explore the deeper meanings. In my artwork and just let my mind play a little bit with words and with materials and images builds technical skills gives me something just to focus on when I'm having one of these periods of time where I'm not working on any particular finished piece of art and that can be a difficult place to be sometimes.
